Domain Name Transfer: Why and what happens?

Q: Should I transfer my domain name to you in order to use your hosting?

A: You don't need to, but it can make life easier for you.

When you transfer a domain name to us, the domain is held with PublicDomainRegistry.com, for whom we act as an agent.

Public Domain Registry (PDR) is one of the world's biggest Domain Name Registries. When your domain name is registered with PDR using us as the agent, then you will receive the billing for your domain name from us. It can simplify matters to receive billing for both your domain name and hosting from the one supplier.

An additional advantage is that if we need to move the hosting from one server to another (as happens occasionally when web servers are upgraded and replaced), then we are able to automatically update the name server settings for the domain without needing to bother you.

When you transfer a domain to us, then for most domain names (e.g. .com) there is a charge equivalent to one years payment for the domain. Then, during the transfer an additional 12 months will be added to the expiry date of the domain name.

Note: there are some domain names (e.g. .co.uk) where there is no charge for the transfer but there is no additional time added to the expiry date.

Note: It is not possible to transfer a domain name within 60 days of the name having been bought or previously having been previously transferred.
